CERRITOS, CA – It’s a night of Rock ‘n’ Roll and R&B – with Latin flair! Join Cannibal and the Headhunters, Tierra, and Thee Midniters at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Saturday, June 6, at 8 PM. Tickets for THE LATIN ROCK AND R&B SHOW start at $38 and are available on cerritoscenter.com.
CANNIBAL AND THE HEADHUNTERS rocked onto the music scene and the Billboard chart with the R&B hit Land of a Thousand Dances. The East L.A. group, which opened for The Beatles on the latter’s American tour and was featured in the HBO documentary The Latin Explosion, was recently inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame. The band’s other hits include Bare Footin and Sha-Boom.
Named the “Best R&B Vocal Group” by Billboard, the chart-topping East Los Angeles band TIERRA fuses Rock, Pop, Jazz, R&B, and Salsa for a catchy and winning musical formula that is evident in the hits Together, Gonna Find Her, Memories, and Zoot Suit Boogie. Founded in 1972, the group was the first Latino band to have four songs on the national chart and two simultaneously in the Top 100. Tierra has performed in Carnegie Hall and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and on The American Music Awards and American Bandstand.
Rounding out the evening’s lineup is THEE MIDNITERS with Grammy winner Jimmy Espinoza. Among the 1960s Mexican-American musicians from East Los Angeles who pioneered the Chicano Rock movement, the group garnered national attention with the hit Whittier Blvd. and kept its grip on the music scene with Love Special Delivery, The Town I Live in, and That’s All.
