The Commodores and The Spinners Shower the CCPA With Motown Magic on Sat., October 28, 8:00 PM
CERRITOS, CA – This is the night for the ultimate Soul-Funk-Motown-R&B fan! Two of the biggest names in the genres – The Commodores and The Spinners – hit the stage at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) to deliver their greatest hits on Saturday, October 28, 8:00 PM. Tickets start at $54.
The show opens with six-time Grammy nominee THE SPINNERS, who defined the smooth sound of Philadelphia Soul and topped music charts with the hits I’ll Be Around, Could It Be I’m Falling in Love, Working My Way Back to You, and Cupid. With a legacy spanning more than six decades, encompassing six Grammy nominations, The Spinners has maintained its universal appeal, continuing to keep loyal fans while winning new ones with18 Platinum and Gold albums spawning a wide array of hits, including Then Came You, Yesterday Once More, Long Live Soul Music, and The Rubberband Man. In 2021, the group released its all-new original album, Round the Block and Back Again, proving its timelessness and enduring lure.
One of the greatest R&B/Soul/Funk artists of all time, THE COMMODORES belonged “to the more genteel 60’s Motown tradition that stresses upward mobility over flashy bravado,” said The New York Times. Perhaps the secret to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame band’s staying power lies in what Billboard called its “engaging vocals [that] woo with warmth and restraint.”
It is a winning formula that has worked well for the ensemble, which racked up an impressive series of hits, including Machine Gun, Sail On, Brick House, and Nightshift, which scored a Grammy for “Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance – Duo, Group or Chorus.” Other hits include Easy, Three Times a Lady, Fancy Dancer, Lady (You Bring Me Up), and Too Hot ta Trot.
