CERRITOS, CA – Treat the family to a Veterans Day concert! Southern California Brass Consortium (SCBC) honors veterans with a special program featuring a variety of patriotic and American works at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Saturday, November 11, 3:00 PM. Tickets are $10.
The SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BRASS CONSORTIUM (SCBC) presents a special program featuring a variety of patriotic and American works from Morton Gould’s American Salute to Captain America!
The nonprofit SCBC consists of 26 professional brass players, percussionists, composers, and arrangers who share a common goal of forming a large, professional brass ensemble that performs challenging, yet accessible music. The organization was founded in 2013 with a mission to share the exhilarating spirit of brass ensemble music through concerts, recordings, educational outreach, and world premiere compositions.
The SCBC has enjoyed nine successful seasons of concerts in Long Beach, also collaborating with notable groups and performing at venues from Los Angeles to Palm Springs to San Diego. In 2014, 2017, and 2021, the ensemble was featured as an opening and closing act for the L.A. County Holiday Celebration at the Los Angeles Music Center on Christmas Eve, which was televised live on PBS.
In honor of Women’s History Month in March 2023, SCBC partnered with the Alliance for Women Film Composers to present a concert featuring music composed exclusively by women, including five world premieres.
SCBC’s artistic director-conductor Hector Salazar received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, where he studied conducting with Frances Steiner. He earned his Master of Arts Degree from California State University in Long Beach and studied conducting with Larry Curtis and Rubin Gurevich. Salazar was appointed conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay and continues as conductor of the Carson Symphony.
He has conducted premieres of Kurt Weill’s Marie Galante, Benjamin Lees’ Labyrinths, and Claude Debussy’s Suite bergamasque. The Los Angeles Times said that Salazar “reveals a fluid and clear baton technique and an intelligent sensibility.”
