Rock Out With A Flock of Seagulls and Men Without Hats at the CCPA on Fri., February 23, 8:00 PM
CERRITOS, CA – Fans are flocking to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) when A Flock of Seagulls and Men Without Hats take the stage on Friday, February 23, 8:00 PM. Tickets start at $44. Men Without Hats opens the show.
Stemming from the synth-heavy and stylish new Romantic movement, A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS pumped up the Dance-Pop genre with the hit single I Ran (So Far Away). Benefiting from heavy play on MTV, the Grammy-winning band quickly became known for its outrageous costumes and waterfall-like hairdos. Billboard magazine called its self-titled debut album “a pioneering mixture of angular guitar riffs, skewed melodies and vibrant synths; it’s a bona fide classic.”
The English New Wavers climbed the music charts with the Top 40 songs Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You), Telecommunication, Space Age Love Song, and The More You Live, the More You Love. In 1984, the group’s instrumental song D.N.A. won a Grammy for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance.”
More than three decades ago, Men Without Hats told the world: “You can dance if you want to” – and did the world dance. It danced to the New Wave/Synth-Pop group’s smash single The Safety Dance from the group’s debut album Rhythm of Youth. The hit’s groove and anti-establishment bent – it was written in protest to nightclub security – packed dancefloors around the globe and even decades later has maintained its status as a cult hit. In 2020, the song was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame along with Men Without Hats’ most successful single: 1987’s Pop Goes the World, of which Rolling Stone raved, “The keyboard hook was so infectious.”
Nominated for a 1993 “Best Group” Grammy, Men Without Hats’ song catalogue has been featured in The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Glee. The band’s latest album is the 2022 Again.
